Sherlock Lives

One fairly obvious fact about my husband and me: when we find something that we love, we pursue it wholeheartedly.  One of the things we love is the BBC’s Sherlock, the most perfect TV show ever. Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman are surpassingly good in their roles as Sherlock Holmes and John Watson, and the screenwriters do not miss one single detail. Ever. The show’s single flaw is that there are only 3 episodes per season and years go between seasons. Buuuut, at the same time, it keeps the mystery alive and the Tumblr fan fires burning (so I hear), so… well played, BBC.

Incidentally, I was feeling like I might be a little TOO obsessed with Sherlock for a woman of 30 years (is it normal for a mom of three children– who barely remembers to dress, eat, and brush my teeth sometimes– to magically  find the time to watch episodes of TV shows three times to “catch everything?”). But then I read some of the stuff out there by a few fans, and–brother– they are living in an alternate Sherlock UNIVERSE, so I think Zach and I can hold our heads up high as admitted Cumberbatch-ians who still have reason and sense on our side.

Anyway, as described in the last post, when we got the idea to do a Sherlock Holmes themed shoot, we couldn’t resist working in some of our favorite moments from the show.

It’s too cold outside right now to do a lot of location photo shoots, so we opted for the indoor studio option. Going for the general feel of of 221 Baker Street with minimal props and effort, here’s what Becky and I came up with:

  • 3 yards of Damask fabric from Hobby Lobby for the backdrop
  • one can of yellow spray paint to draw the smiley face
  • a black wig
  • A cheesy “John Watson” mustache (File under: The Lorax)
  • eyeliner for the Sherlock-the-waiter mustache

The boys thought the whole thing was hilarious, even if it was way over their heads. Their favorite bits were the wig and the mustache. My brother-in-law, who is very “punny” had of the cousins running around saying “And now I mustache you a question!” all weekend long.

Here are the pictures for you. As for me, I must get dressed, eat, and brush my teeth so I can watch Season 3 again.

  • Saw a link to this photo shoot on tumblr. Absolutely precious!! I’m a huge Sherlockian and this was too adorable! I’m so glad to see another Sherlock fan in a similar age bracket, as well, lol. Take care!
